L322 Diesel Heater - Fuel Pump Location?!

Hey all,

I'm trying to troubleshoot a non-starting diesel heater on a recently acquired 05/06 L322. Before I go taking too much apart, I was hoping someone could tell me the location of the diesel fuel pump which supplies fuel to the diesel heater.

Is it attached to or located close to the heater unit itself in the front of the vehicle or is it somewhere else in the vehicle nearer the fuel tank?

Diagnostics is telling me I have a short to ground relating to the diesel heater.

The heater appears to attempt a startup sequence for 2 mins and then shuts down.

I can hear it's fan running during this time but cant hear a clicking/tapping noise which i'd expect the fuel pump to make (but maybe i'm listening in the wrong place ?!)

My guess at this stage is a fault with the water pump, diesel fuel pump or glow plug , any tips or suggestions welcomed. Is there a Westabo maintenance manual available for download somewhere?

Listen behind the near-side rear (back left) wheel. Heard mine yesterday pumping away there! The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

Top photo is of an old corroded pump, and the previous owner had bypassed and bridged the fuel hoses (hose on the left is from the tank, hose on the right is to the FBH) due to pump issues.

Bottom two photos are of a new pump in place. You can see the rear diff in the corner of the photos, so look up to the offside of there with a torch and it's clear to see.

You can see the electrical plug in all photos.

To remove, spray and soak with WD40 several times and use a 6 point socket only on the bolt on the rubber holder. The job is easier with some extensions and an articulating ratchet (though not essential).

Once the bolt is removed, there's more space to unplug it and use hose clip pliers on the clips. You may opt to replace the clips with small jubilees, as they're the Censored type. Have some small bungs, tissue and a little container (and brake cleaner to clean up afterwards), as you will get a few drops of diesel. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8
