After a fruitless search for a nice Disco 4, I concluded that as even the youngest ones were now almost seven, designed as and therefore used as workhorses, really well cared for ones were going to be seen less than Haley’s Comet.

A 405 owner pal suggested a FFRR was more likely to be better cared for car so that’s where I should be looking. Knowing my worries around the weaknesses of the Lion engine, he persuaded me that leaving the lottery of a used V6 behind completely, and finding a V8 would be good for both my mental state and bank balance.

So after overcoming difficulty in insuring one, at least without selling my soul to cover the premium, here I am, a couple of months in and having viewed three cars to date. I’m off to see a fourth tomorrow which has all the hallmarks of a serious contender, FLRSH, one owner, described as excellent for year (2016) and with the “must haves” for me from the options list - Towbar, light colour interior and sliding roof.

Anyone have any tips for a newcomer?

Have in mind making sure everything works, no bumps or knocks on the road, no sign of leaks amongst other things I’ve directed towards but what else should I know?

If you are looking for a 15/16 then I would try and get a AdBlue model, cheaper tax and ULEZ compliant if that matters to you. I’d also check for the full service history, things like transfer and diff fluids and even the brake flexi’s my pet hate when looking was those that had literally just had an oil service. If it has rear heating / air conditioning units then check the pipe work they are prone to corrosion. Ive lower arms and ARB bushes to solve knocking and that’s it **touch wood**

I’d be interested in the kind of money a MY16 fetches now, as I’ve got a 2015(MY16) Adblue Autobiography with a few nice options ticked that’s just sitting on my drive unused that I should really sell. IMO I would try very hard to get the 17 year model better screen last of the model without dual screens and fake exhausts. £180 RT also. overfinch modified

18 model year and I prefer the 17,s rear lights.I do like the 18s front lights though.

I thought they were fake as they look it , are they connected?

Those in the pic are original JLR MY 17 tail lights.
As far as I know, the headlights remained the same right through until MY 2018, but I’m not 100% on that….
