ChipEx

As with a lot of owner on here we all love to keep our cars running and looking their best. A lot of us have the confidence to tackle everything from minor maintenance to full rebuilds, but there are very few who feel happy tackling paint work, chips and scratch's. It’s a daunting thought that pour pride and joys won’t look A1, and when armatures take on paintwork things can spiral very quickly leaving us with the only option to take the car to a body shop for paint work with costs a small fortune.

As my paint is getting on a bit now it needs a bit of TLC. I have a few scratches’ that I thought needed professional help but a lot of stone chips. I have used paint sticks from dealers and Halfords before and the results have been to put it bluntly awful! I haven’t got the steady hand needed and always end up with a blob finish rather than the desired flat invisible finish we all crave.

I found ChipEx on the web and it looked too good to be true. I contacted them and after a quick chat with the owner Johnny it became clear that chipex was the real deal. I got a kit in the post the next day and it’s really is as simple as 1-2-3.

This morning I gave the car a quick wash and set about trying the kit on a few scratch's and chips. The kit consists of 3 steps. The firsts being the paint which there is enough in the kit for 500+ stone chips. The paint is super easy to apply with the micro brush and you don’t have to be careful or steady with the paint application as you are only trying to fill the chip or scratch with paint, as step 2 and 3 sort the finish. Once the paint has been applied a quick swipe with the finger is all it’s needed to smudge the paint level with the surrounding paint. Once dry (4-40 seconds) step 2 can start. Step 2 is a special blending solution. Apply a small amount to the cloth provided and gently wipe the area. The solution will remove all the unsightly paint that has been smeared all over the area. The beauty with the system is if you’re not happy or doesn’t look right all the work can be undone by rubbing a bit harder and longer with the blending solution and all the paint can be removed. This really does make it idiot proof. Once happy and the paint has fully dried Step 3 can be bone and that is just a quick polish to protect the area.
I used the kit for about 20 mins and was super pleased. My results weren’t invisible but this is nothing to do with the product but down to time and practice. I have no doubt that chipex can give virtually invisible results given enough time and practice. I was rushing a bit as the rain was on its way and probably not the best time to start touching up paint.

The kit is available from their website for £49.99 www.chipex.co.uk
Johnny has said he will discount the kits for us as a group buy. We need a minimum of 20 kits to get a 25% discount on the kits. making them £37.49 + 4.99 P&P. That makes them £42.48 to your door.

No prob. Just for note I'm not making anything or associated to the company in any way. I just think its a great kit and very easy to use. They are only a young company only 1 1/2years old. They are recommended by a lot of people. Johnny mentioned he was in talks with a big car company about supplying them with kits. He couldn't say who only they were big. They can color match 99% of all paint colors out there. Only the TVR flip paints being the obvious ones. I already have 6 names for kits from friends and family so were well on our way to the 20 needed.

I will start a list. If your interested add your name and see where we go from there. They don't need to be FFRR colors if you want one for any car.

Why did she stick her jean clad butt on the car after she just "chipexed" away ! ?
Nobody tell her jeans usually have metal studs that scratch. Laughing
