United Kingdom 2019 Range Rover Vogue SE SDV8 Santorini Black
Has anyone bought an in car electric coolbox?

Thinking of getting one for the long trip to Provence and back, handy for keeping some things cold, including drinks etc.

Looked at Halfords and they have a 30% offer on at the moment. Clearly not the type of thing you want to leave plugged into the 12v socket in the boot for a few hours when the engine is off but hoping they can retain their coolness for a few hours and can then be left without too much worry of things getting too warm.

Anyone got any hints tips or recommendations?

Thanks Discovery 4 HSE

Is that a recommendation Mick? Do you have that one yourself?

At least that one comes with a mains adapter, Halfrauds is extra na dTBH< most of Halfords own brand stuff tends to be rubbish. Discovery 4 HSE

I've had two from Halfords. The old one was 8 years ago and we took it around Morocco.
Cost £30. Most of the others had £500+ engles etc... and ours was fine in an air-conditioned car.

As I lost the lead for it I bought one of the new range they do in blue for a trip over Easter to Wales.
Worked fine. Bargain IMO for £35.

Just check the distance from the boot floor to the parcel shelf as the air inlet is on the top, then compare to teh coolbox dimensions If it's too close it'll struggle to get the air into it.
They do make a whirring noise, but if you have the parcel shelf down you won't hear it while driving.

Might be worth a look as well, some good reviews:

Edit: And another here that looks similar to the one Contraband mentioned but from Aldi:

Some are OK Adam but avoid the really cheap ones. I have one of the campingaz ones which is OK. Worked better in my old D3 which had privacy glass. Also avoid ones which are top vented cos they don't always work well under parcel shelves.

What I also found is that it helps to line the base with those freezer blocks and also pre-chill contents in a normal fridge before use. In other words, quite a bit of messing around............which is why I now have a National Luna. Thumbs Up

Still have the trusty 12v coolbox which you're welcome to have. Works etc and never let me down.

Dom

Had the older model coleman for what seems like 10 years by now.

Here is the modern one, different colour, same thing

Works really well in the car, and outside if you have a power supply or portable battery, and it's lighter than an engel or national luna so you can really just lob it on the back seat and not worry about the leather.
Not as power efficient as a real fridge (like the engel/NL) draws a constant 3-4A regardless, but if you put cold stuff in, it will keep it ice cold

We have one at work. My Team have sole use of a Public Order van and we are a team of 10, so we are out all day on the van. We keep cold drinks and chocolate in ours.
Its mains powered too, so we take it of the van at the end of the shift and plug it in at work. Its a decent size one, but the name of it escapes me. I'll have a look next week. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

Got one from Halfords - the smallest. Fits in the rear footwell perfectly, keeps drinks cool perfectly, yes its noisy and no it doesn't have a mains adapter, although I'm not sure why I would need one - I just use it to cool drinks and keep them cool which it does fine. If i want them to go in cool to start with i just use the big white box marked "Bosch" in the kitchen.

I took the Outwell one back as it was also noisy but in a worse way.

Halfords do have a good returns policy - money back if not delighted - so nothing to loose by trying one.

I'm not a particular Halfords fan but I've never had an unresolved problem there, I guess by the comments others have had different experiences. Geoff
