Servicing and repairs in Yorkshire, Dealer or Indi..

I've never had a 322 with a warranty and always done my own spannering so I am somewhat of a virgin in the servicing and repairs at paid garages......

When (if...lol) the 405 needs some repairs under it's JLR warranty is it best to take it to a main dealer or a competent Indie...

Any one with experience of the Main dealer, Hatfields in Hull or Duckworeths just over the bridge (I know we get good deals on parts but what's the dealership like?) Or anywhere else closeish to Hull...

Will there be a problem at a dealer with the replacement Android head unit and/or the touchscreen heater panel...

Any good indies about...??

Thanks chaps... Thumbs Up Pete

grey area this Pete..some might argue that these aftermarket units can cause electrical problems with the rest of the car ..

a main dealer might be a jobs worth and not carry out any warranty work whereas a good independent will over look these additions...i'm only surmising here mind.

did mr bunney have any problems?? ... - .- -.

If it's a JLR extended warranty, I'd expect they'd stipulate that any diagnosis & repairs are carried out by a dealer, that's the way it works with other marques anyway.
Aftermarket equipment, well, if the concern is on a system it's connected to, then I'd say it's reasonable to expect it to be put back to standard for diagnosis to confirm the concern still exists and to confirm any repair has rectified the concern.
If the concern isn't on a connected system, then it shouldn't be an issue. For example, we insist trackers are disconnected (or we charge for the disconection) prior to investigating any battery related concerns, similarly, immobilisers have to be removed / disconnected (inc. 'ghost' types) when investigating any module communication / non-start type issues.

Thanks Stan, Nigel used an Indie but that's miles from here...

Just spoken to Land Rover World who fitted the units, they are authorised repairers so could go there but they are an hour and a half away...!!

Is there anywhere closer gentlemen...?? Pete

I thought that but apparently some Indies are authorised for warranty work.... Pete

Yer, there's an odd 'authorised repairer' status - I think it's a hangover from t'old days where there was a LR 'specialist' at the end of every marketplace. Wasn't sure it even still existed!

Carplan and a few others tend to have a cap on the hourly rate they'll pay which means you either have to find somewhere that is cheap (and firstly find out why they're cheap) or stump up the difference.

Different levels of cover? Or possibly they have agreed hourly rates, similar to the 'one link' rates for fleet / lease companies.
All I know is I have direct experience of third-party warranty companies having a cap on hourly rates and the policyholder is expected to pick up the difference - to be fair, it's stated in the policy particulars but not everyone reads or understands what is covered and what isn't.

JAS nr York have a Facebook Page and are regularly posting updates about faults they're working on, etc. They seem to find some interesting stuff!

My XFR is under a JLR extended warranty and in the 4 years I've had it, it's only ever seen 1 specialist. A good independent is worth way more than a dealer IMO. They can administer the warranty claims and can do the work too. If they're doing warranty work the warranty company pay them directly which is different from a lot of used car warranties as they usually make you pay and claim it back.
