Buying a non-running 2015 5.0 SC

Hi all,

I have been offered to buy a non-running 2015 5.0 SC Autobiography.

The car was sold new at my local LR dealer and has been serviced by them each year since new - it is a one owner car.

The last service was done on September 7th at just under 137.000 miles.

Now, at just over 140.000 miles the engine is "dead" and the owner has been quoted an engine replacement costing more than the car is worth.

I contacted the dealer but could not get much more information other than that the car came in on a tow truck and had a loud metallic sound upon start.

According to service records the timing belt (I thought it was a chain) was replaced in 2017 at approx 105.000 miles.

My indy has quoted me around GBP 5.000 to do an engine swap if I can find a replacement engine. I am hoping the engine may be fixable.

Any key info I should gather before making any decisions?

As always, any and all guidance from you guys is greatly appreciated!

cheers

It is a timing chain on the 5.0, however, there is a belt. I can't remember if there's 2 on the 5.0 like the 4.2.

I'd start by removing drive to the supercharger and seeing how you get on them. The 5.0's are usually pretty robust.

Thanks David, thats what I gather to from what I read…

Worst case scenario I will need to replace the engine. I have found an engine from a 2018 RR Sport SVR with only 61.000 miles, firT date of registration is december 2019.

Does anyone know if this is the same and will fit into a l405?
