AC MAX hidden function understanding

Maybe someone dont know, but L322 have good salon heating option for winter time. When you stop the car for short time, for example you go to shop, you can activate the cabin heater for apr. 15min. Stop the engine and just press AC MAX once. This will activate the blower and additional electric pump. Engine residual heat will be transfered in the cabin. However, this option is working not always, sometime it works, sometime not. Probably there is some kind of engine temperature level when this function is availiable.
As I understood, the engine should be on fully working temperature. When outside is not wery cold (up tp -5) and you drive enough to get temperature gauge in the vertical position, it will work. If you drive not enough it will not. When outside its colder, then this option will not work even after longer urban trip (probably engine temp. is below set level). Same time after highway it will work (engine temp enough).
Maybe someone know exactly when this function is availiable and when not?
