Hi There,

I have just picked up my new car on Friday.

A 2005 4.4 V8 with 99,000 miles in Bonatti Grey.

It is due an inspection (last service 25,000 Miles ago) and is booked in to my local specialist Harris Mayes.

My questions are;

1) Considering the mileage is there any additional service work to the gearbox or drivetrain required at any given mileage?

2) There seems to be no service indicator that i can see.....Am i missing a trick????

Believe the gearbox is slightly better in the 4.4 over the 3.0 TD6, i'd suggest checking service history/recipts and see if gearbox fluid has been changed.

As for service indactor mines on the dials when you first turn the key. I'm sure somebody alot more technicial will be along shortly but welcome.

Having the transmission oil and filters changed can massively extend the life of the unit and improve driving characterisitics, will add about £200 to the bill but could be good preventative medicine.

Make sure the fuel filters are replaced, if you feel keen have all the bushes checked for play and tyres for uneven wear.

The SI should tell you on ignition position 1 when next service is due. On some cars that have been to Indy garages they screw it up and it never works again because their plug in diagnostics are not up to date enough. Happens with BMW's too I'm told.

We used to cope without these systems and go by mileage so I'm sure we will survive! Same with damned TPMS  Discovery 4 HSE

Car is now back and a clean bill of health a really big releif considering it was an ebay purhase at a very good price... just a set of rear pads and discs and rear bushes which is not suprising considering the weight.

My understanding is the plugs need changing at 105,000 miles and i would like to change them myself if it is not to difficult.

Has anyone attempted this before bearing in mind this is the later Jaguar engine...
