I may be alone in this, but I much prefer the earlier (pre 2005) lollypop red/yellow rear lights to the later clear ones.

SO the question is, will the earlier BMW era lights plug and play fit a 2006-2010 RR?

Yes they will.

On my 2006 I actually had the 2006 supercharged rear lights from the same era which looked very good. So, these are an option for you.

But you could also consider the 2010-2012 rear lights (can be found on ebay and PowerfulUK), which in my opinion are the most regal of the lot. Tym recently upgraded the rear lights on his 2008 and posted the before and after photos (top 2 photos):
