Hello All,

The lever became stiff to move through the gate after a week long layup in the airport carpark.

All moves and engages and goes ok but a good push is needed to move the lever.
I looked underneath to see if any linkage could be oiled but only saw the kick down cable.

The beastie is a 2005 V8 with the gearbox oil and filter changed every 40k

Where is the linkage and how do you get to it -from the bottom or top?

I recently posted on this. You need to get under the car and spray loads of WD40 on the gear linkage on the side of the gearbox and easily visable on drivers side I think. Drain/Level plug is on the other side. THe Linkage is VERY prone to corrosion especially when a car is left unmoved for a period.

Corrosion after a week is a bit poor!

I'd guess your corrosion has been building up for a while.

It builds up and is a common problem normally highlighted after the car is left standing for a while...

Having suffered from WD40 use in the past - it's technically a water dispersant not a lubricant - so some marine/ agricultural waterproof grease or ptfe spray might be better http://www.screwfix.com/p/no-nonsense-ptfe...id=1999825 ...

WD40 does work but I agree there are better lubricants.
