On my 2006 car the rubber hoses are part of an assembly including steel pipes too. I think I remember when I bought a pair a few years ago that the metal pipe sections were "mirror images" of each other - ie handed.

I just replaced mine with genuine ones and thought they were the same but there is definitely a subtle difference in them somewhere but I can't remember which bit!! So yes they are different. |

Yes that is an option and if I was doing the job myself I would do that (providing the existing pipes come out in one piece).

Tag some masking tape around each with permanent marker saying LEFT and RIGHT.

But is that left & right as viewed from the front or rear?

Well they may seem to fit initially but once in use there maybe snags. I have read a couple of members emphasizing you really need to fit genuine hoses as some aftermarket ones are poor fits and can rub and wear quickly. i suppose you would not pick this problem up straight after fitting them.
