Damped opening of lower tailgate

My 2010 Autobiography has damped opening of lower tailgate (a small hydraulic strut on the right side stops it just falling open). My 2007 4.2S/C Vogue SE didn't have it. Is it a 2011MY thing or an Autobiog thing?

Can't it be retrofitted to earlier models easily ?

Looks like it would be simple to retrofit.

They are standard fit from 2011.5 MY ie the cars with black headlamps and grills. They can be retro fitted, we have to most of our customers cars so far since launch.

Parts are around £40 from land rover. You need a bracket, a strutt and a new boot check strap with a little nipple on the end for the strutt to push onto (just like your boot gas strutt) then line up the lower bracket on the lower tailgate when open and fix with two self cutting screws... Simples!

Think about replacing the other side check strap at the same time as weve found around half have serious corrosion in them!

I don't to hand as I'm at home. Just ask for the three items from a 322 11.5MY facelift, I'm sure most dealers have sold many already.

Do the holes for the bracket need drilling or do they exist already?

so you unlock and let the tailgate come down on its own, or do you still have to hold it.. ... - .- -.

Press the lower tailgate release button (different style button cover on 2010MY+) and it will come down on its own.
