Hi all,

I have sourced a replacement upper tailgate for my 2010 Vogue SE, it's almost complete with the exception of the wiper motor and camera which I intend on swapping over from my existing (rusty) one. The donor tailgate has had the wiring loom cut where it meets the roof of the car at the end of the rubber tube.

Question is what is the best way to do the replacement - remove the loom from the existing tailgate or to cut it and splice the wiring loom back together. Is there a connector somewhere under the headlining for the tailgate wiring loom? Any knowledge or advice greatly appreciated!

This is a job on my list, I've a replacement tailgate, completely stripped including glass - off to be painted, I found a small amount of corrosion under the lower edge seam sealant which has been ground back and treated.
My plan is this:-
Remove spoiler, trim, wiper, amplifiers, switches etc.
Remove glass
Remove harness back to body
Fit new tailgate, refit harness with new clips
Fit tailgate glass
Refit electrical items
Leave 24 hours for glass sealant to harden (apparently it takes 2 weeks to fully harden!) with tailgate held level by a ratchet strap.
Refit trim, wiper arm and spoiler.

Drive off into the sunset....

How easy is the glass to remove and refit? I found some previous posts saying that it is possible to get the wiring loom out and back in but they are just a bit ‘fiddly’ and takes a bit of time and patience…

I see on the internet that some companies do loom connections for repairs but noticed from the loom in my replacement that a few of the wires are the same colour so they’d need tracing back with a multimeter to make sure they were wired right.

What I was hoping to be a simple job is mounting up! Haha! I got the dreaded DPF Full message today as well, not had it before but a quick blast on the motorway cleared it luckily.

My tailgate is a real mess and needs sorting asap, the rest of the car is lovely as is the ride!

I have a 'tame' (i.e. family member) Autoglass fitter, sorry, 'technician' but TBH once the interior & glass trims are removed I could do it with a cheese wire in about 15 minutes. Clean it up with a 'toffee wheel' or similar, change the harness over, bond the screen back in, home in time for tea & medals....

ETA here's the 'naked' tailgate, the glass bond is barely 10mm width - apologies if it's the colour you need....

Good evening everyone I purchased a RR Vogue SE 2007 and the first job I did was replace the upper rear tailgate from a donor car.
I removed the rear windscreen and unpicked the wiring loom. Took photos of where everything went, took the screen out of the donor tailgate due to it being a different tint.(but I would have still taken the screen out anyways).
Once I fitted the tailgate to the hinges and "centered" the tailgate to ensure even gaps all round, I refitted the original loom, added all the ancillaries and bonded the new screen in. Took about 2hrs including brew breaks, the end result was a fully working RR with no issues having not had to splice any wiring.

It sound more work but it's better IMO to remove the glass, it makes everything else easier - and it's the way it was done at build...

I’ve also done this job, exactly the same method as Tiprat has described.

I’d be very surprised if it was possible to remove the loom from the tailgate without taking the glass out, as it’s clipped in at various points & a very tight fit between the glass and tailgate frame, the connectors at the end of each section of the loom would also hamper this approach.
