RR 275bhp SDV6 vs D5 306bhp SDV6?

Does anyone have direct experience of owning or driving the L405 2018 onwards with the 3.0 SDV6 rated at 275 bhp as opposed to the version in the Discovery 5 3.0 SDV6 rated at 306 bhp?

I have the D5 currently, but wonder if I’d notice the difference.

On paper the D5 is better, but is it noticeably better? Discovery 4 HSE

Have you considered the 4.4 SDV8, IMHO its the better more robust engine and delivers great power across the rev range.
You also get antiroll control with the v8 and it still manages good fuel consumption, easily get mid 30’s on a run and can break 40 MPG if driven carefully. I’m sure many will disagree with me but that’s only my experience of ownership and driving many variants in my work. Don’t get me wrong the SDV6 is well capable but the SDV8 just has that bit extra Wink

My son has got whatever version of the tdV6 that they put in the Disco 5 commercial and it performs really well even when carrying fairly heavy loads, but it just doesn’t compare to my 4.4 tdV8 even though mine is an 11 year old L322 variant.

To both,

Yes I had considered it, I previously had the SDV8 in my L405, it was fine but I found it sluggish, especially compared to this D5 engine.

The newer 2018 SDV6 models I’ve looked at all seem to have Dynamic Response in the TR2 settings too.

That's just a dynamic / sport setting for the air suspension, the 6 cylinder cars don't have the anti-roll system.

It depends on what you're used to, but I drove V6 and V8 back to back and I don't think I would have bought a RR if the anti-roll system wasn't available. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

Only TDV6 advantage I can see is that they’re a bit more refined, especially at idle (and mpg, obviously). The straight six diesels are nicer than both.

So, when I had my 4.4 SDV8, I had the very frustrating knocking suspension that needed the valve block etc replaced, amongst a myriad of suspension parts. As it was 5 years ago, can you remind me if that issue was isolated to cars with the anti roll system, or did it affect all cars?

I don’t want to risk going through all of that pain again, it took months. Discovery 4 HSE

Affected early cars with the active roll bars (Dynamic Response), so the TDV6 wouldn’t have had it.

There was never a question of me buying a V6 after all the reports I read about crankshaft issues.
And I wouldn't say my SDV8 is sluggish either Rolling with laughter 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue
