United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover SE 4.2 SC V8 Barolo Black
2008 Supercharged. Key not turning in ignition

Hi All
Went camping last week and had issue where my key would not turn when inserted in the barrel.
Youtube came to the rescue and after disconnecting my battery and reconnecting it started immediately and dove like normal.
Seems its some form of immobiliser issue which is reset by disconnecting the battery. Problem now is that I have to do this every time I start which is of course not ideal.
The key fob unlocks like normal, but wondering if its a weak battery in the fob or a blown fuse somewhere causing the issue.

Appreciate any help to solve this niggle.

The battery in the key only operates the central locking. There’s a transponder chip that’s separate from the PCB that controls the immobiliser. There’s a receiver just behind the dash, around the key barrel that picks up the transponder chip in the key and unlocks the barrel allowing you to turn the key.

Thanks David
Do you know what can be done to get it recognising the key again, as I really would prefer not to have to go past the stealership

Thanks David and Oggy for your assistance : Bens garage on youtube was king and sorted the problem by lubricating the steering lock through the small hatch on the top of the steering column. The T20 torx bolts were a pain to remove as one is set very deeply into the recess which needs an extension to the bit holder. Tool station £8.95 and 20 minutes lying on my back trying to look up under the steering cover and we were done.
Stealership lost out on a few grand for a new steering column this time. Thanks forum
