My caravan weighs in at 2000kg, is a twin axle, and is as solid as a rock stability wise behind my L322.
I wondered if anyone has had any stability issues with the L405 considering it weighs a lot less than an L322?

Can't answer the exact question but if it helps put your mind at ease, I have a heavy 2009 TA Bailey and it tows far more stable than it did with my D4 which I guess will also have been heavier than the L405. Not knocking the D4, it's a fantastic tow vehicle and had plenty of power but passing vans and cross-winds would make for uncomfortable towing despite trying everything, varying nose weights, tyre pressures, weight in D4, everything. The only thing I didn't try were different tyres (I had GG AT3s on).

The L405 has even more power and you really don't feel it's even on the back as it's so supremely stable by comparison. Connecting the electrics up is a PITA compared to the D4 though  FFRR SDV8 Autobiography

I went from 3.6 a TDV8 L322 to an SDV8 L405. Have towed a twin axle Eldis crusader with both. Only difference is the extra power from the 405, its an awesome tow car and as stable as the L322 IMO.

My twin axle is over 2000kg and I did notice the difference when I went to L405 but soon got used to it, and have never had any stability problems. 2008 Vogue Black - gone

Hi palli, can you tell me more about 'the difference please?
My previous caravan was a single axle and it always felt nervous and twitchy on the motorway. I couldn't believe how stable the twin axle is in comparison, totally solid which makes for a relaxing tow.
My concern is that the L405 is lighter and I don't want to go back to that nervous ' what's the van doing' feeling.
I've been caravanning for 40 years so I know all the basics.

Tow a 8.14m long 8ft wide Buccaneer with mine, really good tow car, no stability issues at all.

It's still a fantastic tow car.

TBH I didn't notice any difference at all - no more than it feels different to the L322 in general driving. There are certainly no stability issues to worry about.

I tow a 2500kg Vanmaster 640 with my SDV8 L405 and it’s as good if not better from a stability point of view than a D3/4. Power on the other hand is much better.

Going from a 322 to a 405 I did feel there was a slight loss of higher speed stability. But within the sensible limits then it was fine, and any difference was marginal at most.

we have a 2019 Bailey Grande Pegasus twin axle, and it pulls it like a train. I haven’t felt the ATC kick in on it yet when attached to the 405. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
