Removed feature

In both the MY22 and MY23 owner manual it is stated that "WALK-AWAY LOCKING: This feature is not available on your vehicle at this time." --> https://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com/docume...c/G2738130
Must be due to hardware (chip) or software (functionality) issues?

Any other features that have been removed?

Issue:
JLR is investigating customers reporting being unable to unlock their vehicles using approach unlocking or keyless entry as the smart key appears inoperative. Once access has been achieved through using the emergency key blade access process, the vehicle will not start as the smart key is not recognized but the engine can be started using the Immobilizer Antenna Unit (IAU).

Cause:
Unknown at this time.

Action:
Please complete the following steps:

Locate the Rear Junction Box (RJB) as shown in attachment
Remove Fuse 17 (5 Amp) for the Remote Function Actuator (RFA) from the Rear Junction Box (RJB) and leave for 10 minutes
Refit Fuse 17 for the Remote Function Actuator (RFA) and confirm the issue has been resolved
On the Pivi Pro screen select 'settings' then 'all' and then 'vehicle', switch off approach unlocking to temporarily stop repeat failures.

Please Note – This is only a containment action, once root cause has been confirmed this communication will be superseded.

Issue:

Customers may complain of fuel flap remains unlocked when vehicle locked.

Cause:

Specification update as part of JLR's response to chip shortage. This feature will be disabled from the following Vins.

L551 – SALZA2BN8NH169600
L550 – SALCA2AX9NH909101
L560 - SALYA2BN9NA328791
L663 - SALEA6RX5N2092300
L462 – SALRA2BW8N2463249
L460 - SALKA9BU9NA000566

Action:

The vehicle is working as intended.
DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS or raise any TA's/EPQRs for this concern.

Release the vehicle back to the customer and inform them the vehicle was designed and sold as intended, the feature is not missing & no further diagnostic work needs to be carried out.

Does that mean that new L460 vehicles delivered from now on won't have the "Walk-away locking" functionality (due to that some parts haven't been installed from factory), or will this functionality eventually work when the root cause has been found and mitigated?

As far as I know, this is a temporary disablement on vehicles where the feature is fitted. It's to do with battery drain as customers are returning to their cars and finding they either cannot get in or start the engine.

Batteries on L460 are lithium ion (first JLR product to have these) and they are allegedly causing havoc in the dealership network. A replacement battery is a four figure sum.

Allegedly this is no longer needed because the filler neck is now anti-syphon.

Almost ashamed to say, taking into account he limited number of cars delivered, this perceived issue may be down to me.

I’ve mentioned on here before, I was one of the very first UK customers to take delivery of their car. My proximity locking did not work for the first few months of ownership, leading to some seriously attentive customer service form JLR, specifically because the car was so new and they wanted to iron out any issues with a new production vehicle.

One day in the dealership two weeks ago and they realised they hadn’t coded the key.

6000 miles and not a single battery issue.

I don’t think it’s you; there are some pretty well known battery issues with L460 and this is part of the fix.

All these issues will have hopefully been sorted out in a year or two, when I can afford an L460. As I know from my woking days being an "early adopter" is sometimes a testing experience (no pun intended). Geoff
