Hi,

Has anyone found an unbranded, cheaper/ just as good alternative to the Sealey VS820 brake bleed system. Don’t mind paying the £60 odd if that’s the way to go but suspect I won’t use it very often and wondered if someone had found the same thing unbranded?

My daughter bought me the VS820 and it is very well made. I bled my brakes with it and it got quite a few air bubbles out the system and the pedal felt a bit firmer.
However, I had new brake pipes put on by my MD and after they bled the system the pedal felt superb.
The VS820 is ideal if you just want to change the fluid and don't have any pedal travel concerns and is really easy to use, but if you have issues I'd take it to a MD.

I have the Gunson Eezibleed tool, widely available, from £20 to £25, £20 at Halfords recently. Easy to use, has been reliable and a Rimmer Brothers video ( Amongst others ) showing how to use it. Uses spare tyre air pressure, bit of a pain, but I do not have an air compressor.

Takes almost no space to store tool when not in use, unlike Bean's drunken air compressor purchase

If you have a compressor Sealey also have a vacuum bleeder which works well .
You do have to keep the reservoir topped up 4.2 SC - sold , now bought back

Bought this Clarke CHT 857 brake and clutch bleeding kit. £63 from Machine Mart. Gets good reviews and feels good quality.

The Sealey VS820 was £83 in ECP and those were the only two kits I could lay hands on yesterday so opted for the Clarke one as I have some other Clarke tools and they have been good quality.

Going to try it today but a bit nervous about messing up by trying to put the whole car on axle stands alone, so am going to axle stand the back two wheels first (correct bleeding sequence for the particular car anyway), then put the back wheels back on and repeat for the front two wheels. Might take a bit longer but can’t see it being an issue otherwise…

Used the above mentioned Clarke bleeding kit on a non Range Rover yesterday - a car fitted with performance brakes and two bleed nipples per brake. The Clarke device is a brilliant piece of kit. Never having bled any brakes before, it couldn’t have been simpler to use and is a very sturdy and well made piece of kit. It took about 30-40 minutes before the pressure guage showed any signs of losing pressure and even then, only the slightest reduction which was easily dealt with by gently pumping the device a couple of times. Highly recommended for occasional use DIYers @ £63 👍🏻
