SGS trolley jack, opinions please

I've been looking for a trolley jack to replace my old one.

I was initially looking at aluminium ones for the weight saving and came across this steel one

https://www.sgs-engineering.com/tj25-4x4-trolley-jack

Strangely its lighter than their 2.5t aluminium jack, has rapid lift and a higher max height oh and its quite a bit cheaper.
I just worry that it may be more unstable when using the high lift device, despite the fact that I know and trust SGS.

What do you think? has any one used one?

Thanks

Funnily enough I'm in the same boat as you and in need of a new TJ. Have you spoken direct to SGS to get there take on suitability?

I thought it looked like one of them short chassis ones but it is 620mm long so I'd say it looks a good one Dave.

I recently needed a jack that would work on my Rangie, and my sons m sport Bmw which is a Censored to get a standard jack underneath... ive had it with the short trolley jacks, as they have limited width, the pumping angle is awkward, as really low..and sometimes don't look comfortable at height, with a wheel off the ground! so I bought this, as its wider, a little longer, and has quick-raise to get the cup up quickly, and a high load capacity at 2.5 tonnes, and I bought a rubber pad to go in the cup too. works great, such a step up from the shorter ones.

Just to finish this I purchased the SGS jack.

A great price for such a well built trolley jack, it does the job very well.

However the combination of SGS and DHL is abysmal ordered Sunday so expected Tuesday delivery, but got an email from DHL that they will deliver Wednesday. Wednesday arrived and I got an email from DHL saying delivered and handed to David, not possible as I was out at the time.

When I got home and looked at the DHL website there was a proof of delivery photograph but no sign of my parcel.

2 hours later there was another entry saying the parcel was at the DHL depot.
55 minutes to get through to SGS customer services only to be told its with DHL. what a waste of time.

On Thursday I get a message that my parcel is delayed by 24 hours. Later that day I get another message that they will deliver on Saturday! That's not 24 hours.

So I think that I wont bother using SGS again, I could have walked to their site and back in less than an hour or so.

Very Censored off and rant over

Hi bigbo, I also looked at the same jack few weeks ago as the 3t one wasn't in stock.
Good to know it's working well.
Couple of questions
Did it come with a rubber pad
Have you jacked up from front and back both. Do you have sidesteps.

Thanks

Also on the lookout for jack and axle stands. Is this package suitable?

It’s what I’ve got, works a treat. Get yourself a rubber pad to fit in the jacking point and you’re good to go, pads available on the bay for peanuts

As Jules says, should be fine.
But I note the Blackpool contingent to your current stable.
Speaking from experience, she might thank you for SGS' low profile trolley jack offering, again 3 ton.
I have one of these and also an equivalent branded as "Arcan".

With regarded to jack pads, see photo.
On the left, the one I've used for the Griff outrigger corners.
On the right, the raised lozenge matches perfectly the outer jacking points for the later L322s and possibly also earlier cars.

Both plentiful on eBay.

Thanks JoolsB and Kiss My Carbon. Re the Griff, I have a Halfords low profile but as it's 20 years old not sure I can trust it to lift the L322. 2011MY 4.4TDV8 Autobiography Baltic Blue

But this jack has max lifting height as 465mm, is it sufficient to lift the ffrr.

Lifts mine, get the FF in off road height and open a door and it’ll lift the wheels from the jacking point, if you’re just doing a quick wheel change then jack it under the suspension arm.

Used under the central jacking point it will lift both wheels clear.

Don’t forget your axle stands if you are going underneath.

Wouldn’t access height be better than off road height?

Lance,

For the sake of the suspension airbags, I think you're probably right.
I would tend to lift initially using a jacking point. And then add a second jack to lift a suspension arm as required, adding a stand once the arm reaches the height required.

Tyre shops I've used tend to do something along these lines.
Although of course they perhaps don't bother with axle stands.
