Thermostat Dead ??

Hi,

I just happened to be checking for any error messages as I recently serviced my 2004 4.4 V8 (Petrol), and I noticed I had one message that read: P0000 Electric thermostat circuit fault. I cleared the fault but it comes back.

The car has been running fine, and the temperature gauge points to a smidge over half way as it has done for the last year of ownership. Cabin cooling and heating seems to also be Ok. I also recently did a long run of just under 400 miles in 2 days with no changes either.

I've checked the electric cable that comes out of the thermostat and it doesn't look corroded or any signs of coolant leaks.

Today I also thought I'd check live temperatures for the Coolant Temp and Radiator Coolant Temp. Here's the strange bit, Coolant Temp 93 deg C, Radiator coolant temp 11.25 deg C.

Admittedly the car was only on a short run for about 10 minutes (Engine temp gauge showing normal) but that doesn't sound right to me ?

Any ideas ?

Cheers

So I've got an update. I took the car out for a longer drive on a warm day, then checked the temperatures again:

Coolant Temp: 105c
Radiator Temp: 85c

So they all seem fine, it's just the error that's still there. What are the main culprits that cause this error ?

Cheers Confused Thumbs Up
