Hi all. I don't do many long journeys anymore in my L405 (4.4 diesel) and now for the first time in 3.5yrs am occasionally getting the 'Low battery' warning before I start my car (the warning message also says to start the engine which is a fair possibility as I rarely get into the car just to sit in the seat and watch the world go by ). To cure the issue, I take the car on a 15-20 mile run to get the battery fully charged again. Hence, thinking ahead to winter when I may drive less - has anyone purchased a battery conditioner for their RR to trickle charge it when stood for several days at a time? I checked Halfords who had a range , but they were mainly chargers with a conditioner feature putting out @4A but did have a trickle charger that did 750mA but it only had a 2m chord. LR also sell one for £119 +VAT which looks like this I assume ..

I have a CTEK MXS 7.0 and I use it to keep a trickle charge on my 50th anniversary Defender as that doesn't do many miles, I also had one of the quick connectors on my Discovery 4 for when it was needed. The CTEK connectors are great as you can connect it up and have the other end out of the battery box so no need to keep having to remove the battery cover. Over on the Discovery 4 forum some people have wired the connector to come out of the wing vent so you didn't even need to lift the bonnet to connect. If you have towing electrics installed Martin sells connectors to charge through your towing electric socket

Ctek kit is the real deal , ideally go for the 10 amp version and I think RR needs the AGM option selected as well . |

Thanks Ian / Alistair / Charlie. So looks like the CTEK is a good choice then (pity I don't have the towing kit as the tow adapter on the Disco forum looks like an easy way to connect). I have also just seen this post in the forum...

Also just seen this clever little CTEK product that connects to your battery and you can check battery health via a phone app...

I use a C-Tek MXS 5.0 (it provides for AGM) on the L322 starting battery and the AGM dual batteries in the rear. I also have a C-Tek XS 0.8 for my motorcycle which may not get ridden for months on end. Ron B. VK2OTC

Ok, got my CTEK now (went for the 3.8 in the end as only aim to use this for conditioning so doesn't matter if it takes a few hours longer than the 5.0 to achieve it). With respect to the + and - jump start points under the bonnet, the supplied comfy connectors are not of a large enough diameter, can I ask what methods people have used to connect the wires to the posts (do the posts unscrew out?).

Yes - the under bonnet post screws out - I used a deep socket - can't remember whether I needed to slightly widen the holes on the ctek cable or not |

Cheers Alistair, was hoping that would be the reply and I see you cut a small section out of the positive posts casing to allow your cables to exit with the lid shut, I'll also do that Steve

You can get comfort connectors with different size eye holes on the cable
