Intermittent Restricted Performance - no obvious cause

Here’s one to ponder, any suggestions welcomed.

I occasionally get a bong and restricted performance, I’ve noticed that just as it happens I get a bit of what seems like a misfire. When I plug in my IID I get a couple of faults- one with the clock which is always there and the popular P040D, which is also always showing, whether the car has faulted into RP or not.

I have recently replaced the throttle body intercooler hose as it was a bit loose and sooty, I’ve checked the donut hoses and no sign of any soot or split, all the other hoses look good, the throttle body looks pretty clean, the car runs perfectly otherwise.

As I said, when this happens, I don’t get a fault code so it’s all a bit trial and error. I’ve just ordered a new fuel filter so see if that makes any difference but the one on there looks fairly recent.

It’s not the end of the world, when it happens I plug in the IID, clear any codes, turn the car off and then restart and it runs fine again, but it would be nice to get it sorted, so - any suggestions wise ones of the forum?

Cheers
Jools

Your “little bit of a misfire “……does it happen at any particular speed/ revs ??

Going back several years, several of us were suffering what we called “ hiccups “ and eventually JLR introduced a TSB with a software update that completely cured the problem.

Try a forum search and you should find the details.
Failing that Stan might help, his Westie was one of the cars affected.

Thanks Mike, had a look at the thread and it doesn’t seem to be the same issue, the ‘misfire’ seems to happen when just plodding - probably 40ish and only occasionally; otherwise it pulls like a train as the second turbo kicks in all the way through to 80-90.

Once it’s cleared, it’s back to normal - until the next time.
