Repaired cars

Hi What is the general opinion about buying a repaired car either cat `N` or `S`if they are repaired by a reputable repairer?

I do know that cat N or S will stay with the car when selling on but you got it cheap to start with?

CAT N wouldn't really bother me as long as the price reflected it's status.

CAT S I would want to see pre repaired pictures to see exactly what was damaged and make my mind up from that as well as it being heavily discounted. Current

Personally I wouldn't touch either, You'll be surprised how much suspension / steering damage you can get on a CAT N.

I would have to see all the photos of the damage prior to repair & throughout the repair process. Then give it a really good inspection.

Bear in mind that they will be repairing this as cheap as possible to make a profit!. Whistle

I've had 5 accident damaged repaired over the years, from tvrs to the current 4.2 sc which I repaired myself, never had a problem with any of them tbh, but the current one is a bit of a 'triggers broom' now Laughing but had it since 2013.

Cat c chimaera 4.6, written off at 18 months old, I bought it when it was 4 y o, sold it a few years later.
No chassis damage, guess it was just fibreglass repairs.

Hi,

I have had 2 "insurance" cars in the past 1 very distant past that I bought, a citreon visa Cool it was wrote off due to needing a new rear hatch, that was it but back then a new one was more than the car was worth, it got a s/h one fitted before I bought it

the 2nd I "Did" Embarassed Censored it needed a mirror and a side window to get it back on the road but was wrote off as really needed a full respray, I did not mind and bought it back as salvage. it never got painted.

A FFRR could be worth £5000 or £50,000 depending how old it is when the incident happens so makes a BIG difference to when it becomes Un-economical to repair by the insurance company so worth finding out WHEN in its life it got the Cat N or S
the car only makes up part of the costs looked at as well add in, car hire, recovery, storage and if it going over about 60% ish? of the cars value is no longer economical as they will recover some cost back as the salvage as well.

It is cheaper (better value Question ) yes but its also worth less when you come to sell it as well

If you go in with eyes open Thumbs Up

Beware of anything that has been "exported" then "re-imnported".

It used to be (at least it was pre-Brexit) for "people from East of Calais" to buy insurance write-offs in the UK, export them via DVLA, trailer them to a workshop for repair, return them to the UK & re-register them with an age related index number & in the process lose any category rating.
