Electric Handbrake Cable Replacement

As part of all the work I’m doing to the RR at the moment I’m replacing both handbrake cables.

One of them is straight forward as it just unclips, the other one needs to be unscrewed. Stupidly, I unscrewed it without counting the turns… Rolling Eyes

Does anyone happen to know if there’s a specific way to adjust the cables on the mechanism? I don’t want to reassemble it with the subframe back in situ and find out that I’ve got it wrong!

Thanks,

Hi David, not sure if this will help at all, as it is a repair video for a RR Sport, but 15 minutes in he states the screw needs to be wound 5 turns in.

Video is titled - Range rover £9 handbrake repair bill (Just in case the link doesn't work!)

Hope it helps anyway!

Thanks Rich.

Mine was definitely a lot more then 5 turns in. Will have another look at it tomorrow and see if i can spot a mark on the old cable when light isn’t starting to fade.

Given that you need to drop the subframe to get to it, I really don’t want to get it wrong! 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

I feel your pain and totally agree, it needs to be right first time with the location it’s in!

Fortunately for me, it’s not a part I’ve had to work on yet so have no experience of setting one up.

Hope you manage to find some more info soon!

David I will ask Tommy in my local garage if he can remember it was one of the jobs he did for me. No witness marks to give you a clue?

I had another look today and had another read of the manual. I don’t know how I missed it but it does state 5 turns in the manual!

Apparently the mechanism can tighten it depending on requirements so that makes reassembly nice and easy! 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

I’ve read it a few times recently making sure I’ve got the orientation of the bushes, etc right! 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

To dhallworth, I have been following your threads for a while now, superb, instructional posts Sir Bow down
I plan on dropping the rear frame off next year after I complete all work on the front, as captain Oates said 'I may be some time'

Thanks Merchy Smile

Main thing I’ve been referring to the manual for are torque figures. However, some of the bushes on the rear need to be oriented in a specific way so I’m glad I had a look before charging on!

Bit more progress today so will be updating my other thread in a bit.
