New Oil is cheaper than a new diff or gbox

Mine had its differential oil changed at four years/40,000 miles at my request. I was told that LR recommended it be done at six years, presumably about 60,000 miles (100,000km). It will partly depend on use when it is necessary. I have not had the gear box oil changed yet, but there will be threads on here about when it is thought wise to do it, I think maybe six years/60,000 miles. Maybe a search on the Getrag website would be useful too. Only Range Rovers since 1988 |

Obviously this is only my personal preference, I would change the oil in both diff's at the same time, usually earlier than recommended. Same with for the gearbox, do it earlier than quoted in the schedule.

Yes, I wondered too. Probably because it has the active locking diff on the rear axle, as opposed to the normal one, and it is under heavier load, but I am only guessing.

There was no suggestion from the dealer that there was a difference between the differentials from a perspective of when to change the oil. Only Range Rovers since 1988 |

The open diffs actually have a service interval of 160k miles or 10 years with the locking diffs at 80k or 6 years.
