I must be missing something. I’ve changed the battery on my car twice since l bought it some years ago and never bothered with any of that. Just changed the battery as l would any other car and never had an issue. Only the usual full lock to full lock after the new battery is installed. |

You only need to join the positive and negative leads together if you want to do a 'hard reset' to 'reset' the ECUs because you're having problems. But you'll need to remove any jump lead before removing the battery - you need to get the battery cables right out of the way (tie them up) to get the battery out / back in, and a jump lead will just get in the way.

If it’s the same as my 4.4 V8 Petrol, then it’s turn off, disconnect the negative terminal, wait 20 minutes, then disconnect the positive terminal. That’s due to the pyrotechnic in the positive cable.

Changed mine twice over the 9 years I've had it. Didn't bother with any of that wait 20 min and shorting leads together palaver. Only difference was that being 7 or 8 years older, between changes, meant it was more of a struggle lifting the 020 sized battery, out and in, the second time around.
