They really are just picking on the vehicle stereo type. I recall the below article surprised me when it came out but does show how the size of the car is not necessarily the issue. Especially if like me 90% of the time the car is full of people and dogs, anything smaller and we would need two cars for the same journey.

Didn’t quite catch what you said . RDR

Big 4x4s with modern diesel engines can be among the cleanest vehicles on the road.'

'By contrast, the small supermini is the dirtiest and many times worse than the official NOx limits

You can drive a modern diesel into a polluted area and it emits cleaner air than it takes in…..

Nope, they dont emit air, thats why you die when you run the engine with the garage doors closed. BMW i3 Electric Car

The point is, the air exhausted has less dust particles, so its cleaner.
The oxygen content goes down, but thats a few percent in the big outside world,

Its not air in the exhaust, I accept the gasses may have less particulate content but it definitely isn't air. You cant by any stretch of the imagination claim to be cleaning up the atmosphere by driving a FFRR. BMW i3 Electric Car

It’s all about the particles in the air. The study was done by Emission analytics, a robust anti emissions organisation . They were actually very surprised by their findings about two years ago. Nowadays they simply say (paraphrased) particulate production by modern cars is almost irrelevant.

These guys are red hot , advise governments , help shape rules & laws .

Their biggest concerns are now tyres , brakes and modern plastics and similar within the cars. Still anti car, but not saying so. Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

Less particles, it’s co2 that isn’t particularly healthy in a closed garage. My strap line is a word for word quote. Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. It may well be a word for word quote but its WRONG! Rolling with laughter Air does not come out of the exhaust of an ICE.

Diesel Exhaust
CO2 - 12%
H2O - 11%
O2 - 10%
N2 - 67%

Petrol Exhaust
nitrogen 71
carbon dioxide 14
water vapor 13

Air
Nitrogen 78%
Oxygen 21%
Lots of other gases in minute quantities.

Either of the exhausts look like air? no, i didnt think so either ! BMW i3 Electric Car

To be fair from the above figures 88% of diesel exhausts are air and 84% of petrol exhausts are air. Not pure air by any means but not bad. Very Happy

2012 Range Rover Westminster TDV8 Causeway Grey

I remember clearly when in 2000 I purchased my first brand new vehicle which was a lovely sparkling black Freelander 1.8i station wagon - and the always sanctimonious and supercilious virtue-signalling teacher types and other '''pros''' at my tennis club getting the right hump at my shiny new vehicular acquisition - the luvvie bar-stewards. Two teachers in particular - head teachers for whatever that means - a married couple who lived in a virtual mansion got the bigger hump than everyone else, explaining to thicko me how selfish and ignorant of the planets demise I was, and yet it was found shortly afterwards they both owned big V8 Jaguars apiece, and were occasionally able to holiday in Monte Carlo, with friends. Funny how this new age greeno lunatic balance seems to work - innit?!?

Might consider the safety devices some fit to their nice motors in South Africa some years aback now: where flame-thrower units were fitted to the lower area of the car, and would roast anyone tampering or trying to hijack the car... Very Happy
