She's run in...and sounds AWESOME

I never thought a Diesel could sound good. The 4.4TDV8 is whisper quiet at low revs, and as the first 3,000 miles is now done I can push the power on. The second turbo makes a massive difference and at 4,000rpm the car sounds like a V8 petrol. So impressed as coming from a V10 Petrol I thought I would miss the sound when it came to Diesel. But I was wrong.

The guys at Top Gear said the Diesel actually sounds better than the petrol !

But I thought the FF was supposed to be so well sound insulated.......perhaps you have to open the window to hear the growl Laughing

yep got to agree there, nothing like a twin turbo V8 oil burner on full throttle - the petrols are just too quiet now

The 3.6 TDV8 definitely sounds like a Diesel at idle and at low revs.
I've driven the 4.4 TDV8 and although I agree it sounds way better especially at speed, at idle it still sounds like a Diesel (quieter tan the 3.6 but still not as quiet and smooth as the 5.0L Supercharged).
For having driven the 5L Supercharged all weekend, I wouldn't say the Diesel sounds better.
On Top Gear, they said this after having driven the 5L Supercharged and at this time the 4.4 TDV8 wasn't out yet so to say the 3.6 Diesel sounds better than the 5L Supercharged is Censored !

Can't agree or disagree with you boys yet as only had my 4.4 TDV8 for a week, so not many revs yet. However, I can vouch for the fact that a 90mph cruise at about 1650rpm is most satisfying Smile

Shocked

My TD6 is at something like 2800rpm at 75. It's the thing I least like about it. Shows what plenty of cubes, really good turbocharging and 8 gears can do.

Mind you, mine cost probably what yours depreciates by in a year. Laughing

What's the mpg like at 90?

@5.5-6k miles on ours now and she's sounding awesome. I always thought our old tdv8 RRS sounded well but this new 4.4 is a peach (relatively for a diesel).

Getting 26-27mpg. But I don't hang around Smile
So really pleased with that.

Kurt,

Have you thought about having your TD6 remapped? It lowers the revs at cruising speeds, makes it slightly easier to live with. Discovery 4 HSE
