Loose dip stick?

Hello all,

I popped the bonnet today just for a look around as I do occasionally.
There was a decent splattering of oil around the dip stick area caused by the dip stick being out about 2-3 inches.
Does anyone know what would cause this. Haven't had it before and it might be that the dip stick is loose and needs replacing but I thought I would ask the question in case it's caused by something more sinister, like a build up of oil pressure. Car has been running perfectly and the oil level is correct.

Cheers for any comments,

Ian

This can happen if the oil circulation "vortex" filter gets blocked up (well it did on my TD6) something similar on a TDV8 ? .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

Cheers Joe,

I'll look into it, not sure the TDV8 has one even.
Thanks for the pointer.

Has anyone else had a dipstick issue? Today I went out and 10 mins in I noticed a fair amount of smoke under acceleration. A little time after I get the bong of doom, engine system fault. Stopped, turned off and restarted and all good. Drove to the next layby for a quick inspection and top front of the engine driver's side covered in oil. As I changed both top turbo hoses a few days back I thought maybe another hose split. After checking everywhere and finding no obvious leak I discovered the dipstick was out of the tube 1cm and the source of the oil leak. There is every chance I either did not replace it correctly or lifted it up with a rag or something so fingers crossed. Not sure why a not sealed dipstick would cause an engine systems error.
The engine runs perfecty with no strange noises, under diagnostics there are no errors and all live data is good. 2007 TDV8 VSE
