its weird that google says to go around the ring road Mike cos everyone i've asked about this route says to avoid it..

The dozen or so times I’ve done south, I’ve gone Calais, Reims, Dijon, Lyon, Aix en Provence, sunshine…. With a stop in either Reims or Lyon depending on crossing time.

Ditto NMJ, mainly because we liked Dijon whenever we could get there by about 6pm. for our overnight stop.

i've done that route going to the alps Mark but where i'm staying [just north of montpellier] it would wack a couple of extra hours onto the journey..
