Range Rover ownership… the gift that keeps giving!!!

We love our fatties, but sometimes we have to wonder why!

So today, about a week after spending lots of £££ and many hours replacing various parts in the engine bay, I go for a drive on a cold Wednesday morning. The car has been warmed up a bit by the FBH and I set off only to hear an intermittent chirp / squeal.

It comes from behind the dash so I start working through all the things it could possibly be despite knowing instantly what it was… but attempted to find anything, ANYTHING else it could be! oh the images of a stripped dash flashing before my eyes teasing me! Big Cry

During the journey it got worse and more irritating. Setting the fan to high reduced the squeal and made it more bearable for the return journey…

Great, I am going to have to strip the dash and attempt to cut out the fan as per a few posts I’ve seen, and YouTube videos. Yippee Crying or Very sad

But wait, I have an MY12! I’m sure I read you can get to the fan from the engine bay? It’s just behind the pollen filter? I search online… nope it’s a dash strip. I search the RAVE manual… nope it’s a dash strip (I think, I’m struggling to find the heater core housing section).

Please someone tell me it’s easy and accessible through the engine bay Big Cry

I’m going to pull the pollen filter anyway as if I can see the blower through a duct I may be able to spray a lubricant to prolong the inevitable… wish me luck!

Oh the joys…

Anyway, rant over! Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

i Changed the fan firday using this video on my 2012 4-5 hours not to hard realy if you watch the vid and take your time, id fist check to see if the fan spins easy by removing the pollen filter housing turniing the ignition on, turn fan on this opens the outside air flaps you will see the fan running and also be able to hear if the squeek is indeed coming from the fan, turn ignition off and the flaps stay open a short while so you can feel the fan to see how easily it moves.

this is a link to my post with the video in it

Cheers furnitureman, oddly enough I was just watching that very video!

So it’s looking like a days work, all going well. And about £110 for a new blower and fsr. Not as bad as I though…

That’s a good shout about checking the squeal from behind the pollen filter. I’ll do that just to be sure it is the fan (I know it is… but I’ll take any chance I get at it being something different and hopefully easier!) Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Got my blower from advanced factors i think around £80 i think also you can get the forum discount and it has a 2 year waranty, if you decide to go ahead with the change drop me a PM there are a few tweeks to the video that will make things easier and the main one is getting a multi cutting tool much easier than the dremel 2012 Range Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8

ah just watched your video. when you take out the two middle clip on plastic vent tubes you can also take out the ones on each side when you take out those that whole jeep grill looking piece also unscrews and comes out which means you can take the fan out move it towards the back of the car turn it sideways and it comes out.

Surely if you followed the video you must have cut something as the fan won’t come out due to the cable tray and the obsolete impbaliser bracket 2012 Range Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8

It died. Went to go out in the car on a cold frosty morning, so used the FBH to defrost the car… but when I went to get into the car I found it to still be frosty.
so I start the car, push the buttons to blow at the screen… and nothing. No air movement at all.

Well, there goes my plan to lube the fan to try to get a bit more life out of it!

Off to advanced factors to order a replacement blower and fsr. And pry bar from Amazon. That’s next weekend booked up! Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Well I’ve started… just under 2 hours in.

I don’t yet see how you can gain access without cutting, but have stopped for food and coffee and will crack on! Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

yep nearly there the two vents below come off and the facia with the start stop button comes off then the plastic tubes just pull out, might come out easier if you squeeze them lengthways? then the jeep grill type thing unscrews the hardest screw is the one on the right as you look at it. how are your hands looking? then three spring clips and the front panel of the fan folds towards you and comes out
