so I'm stuck, can't get the crankshaft pulley bolt off, even borrowed a impact driver with a 1000nm bolt breaker is there some sort of holding tool for the pulley or is a case of taking out the starter? this is for the tdv8 4.4 2012 |

Could it have a left hand thread? |

It has a thread which undoes by turning anticlockwise. I have bought a new bolt to go back in |

Can you get a strap wrench to go around the pulley and wedge it against something solid? |

So I thought I had fixed this as no more oil leak… until Thursday when I noticed some oil on the drive, so took under trays of to find oil is pouring out from behind crank seal so Friday picked up new seal and started job to replace. Once I got crank shaft pulley off found that the seal had come out???wtf and behind the seal was little bits of black rubber probably from the fan belt which I found on the first job which was wrapped behind the pulley which I thought I had removed??? So used an aurascope thing (used for looking in ears and up noses) to look inside the engine through the three holes which are behind the seal, only to find it packed full of bits of fanbelt??? So pulled it all out with a pair of fine tweezers. Looked all clear put it all back together and took it for a drive only for it to happen again Saturday with another piece of black fanbelt pushing the seal out and leaking oil so rechecked for any more debri with aurascope nothing double checked and then pushed seal back in and tapped it flush with a socket. Put it back together I’ve got this down to a tee now and it takes me less than 4hours from start to finish went for a drive everything good…. Untill today (Sunday) another oil leak what am I doing wrong???? |

Do you have to stake the seal in place? Does it recommend using an adhesive?

Hi the seal comes with what I would call an introducer? Which goes over the front of the crank shaft and then I use a socket which probably touches the out side edge of the seal give or take a couple of mm and then it taps in using a rubber mallet there are grooves on the outside edge of the seal and ridges on the inside of the of the engine seal well I assume they pair up? The seal ends up flush with engine. |
