I use lanoguard on mine, there are a few shields I’d love to remove sandblast and galv one day. Maybe something to pick up from a scrap and do.

Most of the steel stuff is bracketry, which I wouldn’t be too concerned with protecting. Used to do it to stop floor panels etc rotting or chassis members, but with the main structure of the 405 being aluminium I’m personally not worried if occasionally a crossmember shows a bit of rust. If at some point it get too bad then it’s an unbolt and bolt on a new bit….. much less messy and hassle than trying to treat the whole of the underside of a car which won’t rust….. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

The problem is when the rust creeps between the bracket and the aluminium it’s bolted to, aluminium is great until it starts to corrode and once the paint is broken and you have two dissimilar metals touching it only takes a bit of water or salt to really accelerate the process.

I’ve waxoyled mine, concentrating on any metal work including tank saddles but mainly the ARC pipes, these are only on the SDV8 on the L405 but can be expensive to change as are a PIA to do due to the route they take. I removed the plastic panel under the sill, drivers side then gave it all a good coating. The brake pipes also corrode on the L405 so is worth a coating to save an MOT fail as they get older. |
