We have checkesd the battery and the RAC man checked it a couple of times we he looked at it so don't believe it is that, we have had it off and on since fitting the ne module as well, and doble checked it. |

Another possible could be the gear selector inhibitor switch telling the ecu the car is in gear rather than park or neutral thereby preventing the starter motor operating. see thread here https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic15665...r+selector |

@NobbyC: yes, good point but I changed my XYZ switch and it made no difference. The car did think it was stuck in 3rd but soon cleared when the ignition switch button was installed. |

Agree with potential inhibitor switch. I had that on a P38 years ago. You could try dropping it out of park and into neutral before cranking. L405 2017 TDV6 AB

I've had this issue several times. Mostly its low voltage or a battery on its last legs.

I had exactly the same symptoms not that long ago, removed the xyz switch, cleaned out the inside and bent the wire pins so they were making better contact then put it all back together and haven't had a single problem with starting since. |

You can replace the ignition switch not do hard I did that on mine but it was the starter motor in the end.
