FFRR TDV8 v Sport TDV6

Does anyone know if they will put the 4.4 TDV8 into the sport ?

It kind of defeats the word "sport" when the FF rangie will do 0-60 in 7.5secs, but the "Sport" TDV6 only does in in 8.8 secs !

Is it to keep the cost down & perhaps the supercharged petrol is more popular on that vehicle ?

The TDV8 has been dropped from the RRS to enable Land Rover to differentiate more clearly between Sport models and the Full Fat Range Rover....

My mate has a TDV8 RRS HST and it certainly shifts but it is a 2007 model....

My guess is they will upgrade the Sporty engine when the new FFRR is launched, perhaps along the lines of the Jag V6 engine...

On a LR Experience day, the guys in the know said that the Sporty will never have the V8 diesel again, only the S/C petrol

The Disco is supposed to be getting a more powerful tuned diesel engine and the 8 speed box in th near future. My guess is the Sport will get the same.

To be fair "sport" is not just about 0-62mph. It's about handling and cornering for the 5% of the time you're driving like a crazy person on a country road. In that situation I'd let the sport driver go and enjoy the ride. Smile

Is there any difference in the engine from that year to the one they fit in the FF now ? (or was the V8 only the 3.6 still ?)

my understanding was that they dropped the tdv8 because the new 4.4 is slightly bigger and wont go in the rrs body

Yes you are correct the newer 4.4 TDV8 is bigger than the previous engine so cannot fit into the sport, the sport may get it back when they release the new version of the sport in a couple of years

I was also told that some of this has to do with Brussels Crap and emissions across a range of vehicles and that they either had to drop the TDv8 from the sport or the 5.0 SC which would have killed sales of the sport in the USA ETC. But also yes they would have had to rework the already tight bay to fit the 4.4 and it would not take the 8 speed box. Far to many gone...
