I think I'll just get one of those gadgets that Stan has as I have had my hand forced by my LR Sat Nav packing up altogether, doesn't matter if it was good or bad. I now use Waze on my phone but could just do with a bigger screen, I could use my iPad but its WiFi only so no GPS. Although I'm not in a rush so happy to wait for Craig's thought's on the system he has on trial from Unique Audio Developments (which uses the in built screen), I don't really want the inside of my LR to look like a Tesla with additional screens

In the recent past I've been critical of Unique Audio Developments as their system as fitted to my sons car (Audi RS4) didn't work perfectly.

No cable Craig, via Bluetooth, the module is in the glovebox. |

As I understand it the CarPlay unit has a bluetooth connection that it uses to connect to the phone. If so the phone can only connect by Bluetooth to one thing, the CarPlay unit, then it must connect audio to the car via the aux socket, which is better than bluetooth anyway.

If it is the same as my Jag and the previous RR and utilises the same system that JLR use, then CarPlay connects via the USB in the cubby box, not bluetooth SDV8 AB MY 2019

The issue is this, you connect via Aux lead and your audio quality is lesser than running Bluetooth... The second issue will be the telephone, which connects via Bluetooth to the carplay system. That means your phone calls won't be answered in the usual way when driving! And finally, connecting via Aux won't allow you to use the FF RW buttons on your steering wheel... Now, if you change your Bluetooth from CarPlay to Range Rover this fixes all the problems above... Now I just need an expert to tell me how an iPhone's Bluetooth connection can be changed to automatically attach to the Range Rover over and above the CarPlay connection? Does anyone know, please? |

CarPlay will always override Bluetooth if enabled. But you should not be connecting your phone to both CarPlay and Bluetooth at the same time. It will cause issues. To disable CarPlay for a specific car, go to the iPhone's Settings/General/CarPlay menu and in the My Cars list choose the respective vehicle and then press Forget This Car. This is of course valid for wireless CarPlay, for normal CarPlay just don't connect the cable to the iPhone... |

From my experience, quality loss is negligeable. Also, the convenience of playback control over Bluetooth is not mentioned... |

Following for updates. I want CarPlay, but my wife uses the massage seats constantly. The larger screen isn’t a big deal to me. Dan. 🇨🇦 2013 L405 5.0 SCV8 |

After driving on holiday in a CarPlay enabled car, I thought enough! I had the Unique Auto unit fitted and now wonder why I waited so long!

Now got Waze fitted where I can easily see it. As you can see in car sat nav goosed, I am not on "Bonfire Hall Lane".
