Car back from garage and key dead

Hi Guys,

Apologies for posting another problem so soon, but I've just picked my car up from the bodyshop after someone reversed into it at traffic lights.

When I picked it up, they asked me if I knew the keyfob battery was flat? It hadn't been showing any warnings beforehand, but it did indeed appear to be totally dead. Anyway, it was a right pita to find the right spot for the emergency override thing to work to allow me to get home.

I've just checked it and the battery voltage was 1.5V. A bit odd, I thought, but perhaps they left something pressing one of the buttons.

So I changed the battery for a new Duracell. Tested it and it was showing 3.2V prior to fitting. Went out to test it and still nothing. Checked the new battery and it's now down to 2.5V. I'll try another, but is there a resynch method for these keys? There doesn't seem to be anything in the manual.

Luckily my spare is still working, but I can't imagine what they've done to it. It was working fine when they took it away.

Any ideas anyone? 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

Well this is odd. It appears that my manual is wrong. It tells me to put the battery in + side upwards. All the videos I found online state the opposite. When I swapped the battery over it now unlocks the doors and locks them again.

Unfortunately it's still saying Smart Key not found.

My spare key also has the battery in + side down, so it seems my manual is definitely wrong. Any ideas why it's still saying smart key not detected? The spare still works fine. 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

I've just tried to re-add the dodgy key via my IID Tool but it was unsuccessful.

It did show 2 keys programmed but only 1 present, so I assume the dead one isn't valid. I wonder if it failed to be added as it's already programmed to the car - would I need to remove it first? If so anyone know how?

I also noticed the door on the OBD socket has been broken - actually the socket itself - someone has tried to open it from the wrong end so it looks like the bodyshop has been messing with it. Can these ports be replaced easily? 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

Take it back to them to explain why it’s broken and key not working. Smells distinctly like they’ve been trying to programme the key. I’d be fuming Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Something weird has happened to it. When I first plugged my IID Tool in, I had a whole raft of scary looking errors - a lot of canbus ones including the KVM unit. They all cleared eventually though.

The battery was very flat when I got it back - I wonder if they've let it go completely flat by leaving something on but it doesn't explain why they would have been accessing the OBD port.

Trouble is, it's just been to my indy in Reading to have the alternator and battery replaced and I haven't checked the port since - I can't see them breaking it though - it literally looks like someone has tried to force it open from the hinge end.

I might complain the the accident management company. I doubt I'm going to get anywhere with the garage since they've already tried to cover it up.

It went in for a new front wing and repairs to the bonnet and wheel. 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE
