Now here is an interesting one for us to ponder.

The image below is off the JLR web site, it shows ceramic brakes and disks front and back, bizarrely (and it must be a computer generated image) the tyres show Continental SSR with a size of 195/55 R16 Continental runflats which is definitely wrong??

In fact if you look at most of the images they are all computer generated and there are a lot of little things that aren't quite right.

Little things hey!! you would have thought whoever generated the picture would have known what they were doing

Reg little things: just looked at the video from RoCars https://youtu.be/hRHxqJ3xQ-E, and I noticed a poor detail for how the antennas have been mounted. See this picture - look at the front lower part of the antenna - it isn't flush with the roof:

Daft question…do you think there will still be a smaller wheel option for tyres with bigger side walls?? I’m afraid I’ve reached the point of perennially catching diamond cut alloys in 1960’s multi-storey car parks!!!

Also agree, there is no reason that aerial couldn’t be flush l/contoured with the roof

Lastly given the horrific head injuries from the L405 tailgate that some owners have had, I also hope they have addressed any sharp points of contact! (Search the threads on here)

No the sharp points are still there but it opens higher. I raised the weaknes with the engineer at Gaydon. letters not necessarily in the right order

I spent a few hours with one over the weekend; So here's my take for what its worth.

The good bits

Signature sound is excellent and loads better than base system, only let down is the cheap looking speakers in door windows (which is strange as you look at them all the time).

The small quarter light in the front windows is actually surprisingly helpful.

Electric folding parcel shelf is quirky and a nice touch.

Door handles felt positive and sturdy despite feeling a long way away.

Build Quality is excellent (even on pre-production cars)

The 4.4 v8 sounds awesome and is very responsive

Seats on First Edition are good, and very configurable, head rests are amazing and fit like a glove

Heated seats and cooling are still excellent and pushing and pulling dials is ok even with gloves on

Driving position is excellent

Soft close now feels better than before

Shame the secret door pocket has not returned in doors as per 13-16MY

Touch screen is good, and very responsive, I like the fact you have to press it as gives good feedback, I personally don't like I pads so it was good for me.

The animal friendly material is very nice but I wonder how it will hold up over time

Air vents were good and very configurable and directional despite being small

4 wheel steer is awesome

HUD is miles better and crystal clear

Dashboard is far more configurable and easy to use

Glove boxes same as before

Rear seats are best so far and very adjustable

Passenger wingmirror seems very short and stubby


Down sides

Some fixings under lower tailgate are visible when open, maybe because it was a prototype pre production version.

Small speakers above driver and passenger in roof look cheap

Material headlining looks cheap leather looks and feels amazing

Seats in SE are very hard and headrests are very poor in my opinion but it is the base model I suppose so they have to have a benchmark

Personally don't see the point of a 7 seater for me as SV is the one for me with 4 seats.

Still not sure on the steering wheel design, the buttons on the steering wheel are ok but i preferred the actual buttons from earlier cars but that's progress

No false rebadging as VIN no also says model variant in front window

What did you make of the driving position? As per the other thread, it felt more car-like to me (mainly down to the height of the seat base from the floor, I think).

Build quality - wasn’t overly impressed with solidity of the centre console, and, particularly, the retracting lids over the cubby holes are pretty flimsy and rattly when tapped.

The driving position did feel more car like due to the height of the centre console, but with a good bit of adjustment it feels right to me. The centre cubby was a bit rattily on SE but Autobiography and First Edition was ok

Dr F, when you say the 4.4 sounds awesome, is it louder than the 5.0SC? And if so what effect is there from the noise cancelling in the headrests? I recall one of the features of the 2004 4.4 (BMW) engine was that it was noisier at higher revs (I appreciate that the 5.0SC is pretty loud when the redline appears on the dash, I'm meaning at more everyday rev ranges e.g. on UK motorway).

Agreed re the door pocket, that was a nice feature. I thought the 460 main lower door pockets smaller than the 405 ones too. Only Range Rovers since 1988
