Is this to much

£650 to get an 02 TD6 auto remapped, it's a custom one not generic.

And yes i know the GM boxes are made of chocolate and maybe not advisable even driving easy.

It is really. When I had mine, in about 2012, was £300 odd generally. I paid a bit more and had JE Engineering do it. Think that was £400 odd with the VAT….

Don’t know what they are now though.

Get in touch with Alive Tuning or Bell Auto Services, if only for a price comparison.

They know their onions….

If it is truly a custom one the I don’t think it is too much at all. But not sure whether that car actually warrants a custom map, only if you have some unique parts on it or other requirements.

I’d be wary of custom maps, especially on diesels.

Lots of snake oil about in the mapping world.

Custom maps are tuned to the specific car on the road or dyno and take hours.

Best map i ever put on a vehicle was a free map someone sent me that I put on a KTM RC8 with a free app and a 30 quid cable…

Normally custom maps are off the shelf files they apply to many vehicles without changing anything.

Thanks chaps, so it's a bit pricey, i kinda thought that i expected about 350-400 and told him that

The main thing i'm worried about is the Cadbury's box, i'll check the ones in the link (thanks MJ)

So is it a custom map or not? If it is custom then it really isn't expensive...

To answer your question, I think it's expensive especially for a TD6.
I had a Quantum remap on my old X5 [same engine] for 'power & economy' several years ago mind you, & that was around the £200 mark.
Never had a problem with the gearbox in the 5 years I had her, towed a twin axle caravan with her, just be gentle & avoid flooring it & she'll be fine. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

Bd.....I did say at the start it was a custom one

Fox..... you think it'll be ok just go easy, I don't drive like an ar$e anyway. it's on 145000 and seemingly had an oil and filter change about 6 months/400 miles ago.

I suppose you have to ask yourself why do you want a remap?
My X5 was perfectly fine, I just wanted a little more pulling power with the caravan & perhaps a tad better economy.
The TD6 engine is quite antiquated compared to the V8's so it's never going to burn off the lights at mega speed, but, a decent remap will certainly improve things. The gearbox is fragile, but again, if you treat her with respect & change the oil & filter on a regular basis, shouldn't be a problem.
To be fair, if you have to have a recon box fitted at some point, it's not going to break the bank is it.
The TD6 is a big ol' lump with a 6 cyl engine, it just needs a little time to get there. Laughing 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

I know you did, so why do you think it is too much then? As @klunk highlighted if it is truly custom it will take many hours with costs of both man hours and dyno hours. If anything what you've been quoted is cheap for a custom map, I mean how much do you value the hourly rate of a professional, and the cost of a proper AWD dyno...
