Gearbox troubles

Hi

Have some gearbox trouble in a 4.2 SC

I bought the car with a knackered gearbox, the car moved forward/back but i didnt try it on the road, previous owner said it would do a few miles then loose drive, getting worse until it would do about about 800 yards and get warning messages and loose drive, cool down and could drive another 800 yards

So, as a quick/cheaper fix Ive replaced the gearbox from a low mileage car, new sump pan, filter, oil etc and put on the ecu from original gearbox. Starts and drives but soon started having flares between changes, eventually banging and lots of resistance at low speed followed by warning messages and safe mode, this was after about 6 miles and not exceeding 35mph

Another duff box? It has warranty so can remove and send back if it is but what else could it be? There is only 1 autobox specialist round here who charges about £75 to say the box needs to come out and a new one will
Be £3k

Might have to bite the bullet and do that but looking for some advice first.

Just find it strange that it seems to be having same issues with this box as the original

Cheers

No real way too tell unless it goes to a gearbox specialist I guess. Could be something to do with the solenoids. Best thing be too get the ecu software updated and get any faults read and go from there

So there has been a slight mis communication between me and my garage….instead of taking the tcm ecu out of the original box and placing into the new used box he has put the whole mechatronic unit in, hence having the original
Problem again!

He is changing it out and new oil so fingers crossed it will be ok!

Will report back
