I did look at those bars, problem is tracking them down in the UK, supply chains being what they are at the moment, like hens teeth.

Thank you! Always nice to hear that.

Not really, I know Empire Tuning, as they remapped the ‘10 Defender, I was really impressed with that map, how it gave me more low down power, and better fuel milage.

My thought process is, I want unleash the torque lower down, shut the EGR’s, and maybe increase MPG, but that last part is not really important, I’m happy getting 30+ mpg with it, the extra BHP won’t go a miss. £300, bargain in my book.

Empire told me that it will be a “torque monster” far smoother across all rev bands and will pull away “robustly” from lights and roundabouts. Their map also changes the profile of the turbo engagement as well, which is probably where they get the extra torque from low down.

Will be interested to hear how you get on with the remap - the most common observation is that the TDV8 is pretty impressive out of the box but I suppose more is more!

Just be aware that the gearbox is only rated to 700Nm which is what the car came with originally so it will be interesting to see how it fares.

For an overlander, reliability must trump all out performance I would think.

All, remapped, EGR’s and DPF turned off. Performance is better, smoother in all gears and pulls at the low end, much smoother off the line, and yes, more ooomph. I don’t drive it like I stole it, but it feels much more lively in all gears, too early to tell about MPG, but that wasn’t the reason for doing it. Check out my YouTube channel

All,

The frame for the fridge, slide, step 22 bags and dual battery system has started to take shape, I had a basic design idea, and modified as I went, need more apply tubing and connectors, but, it’s in, fits, so far and ready for more work next weekend.

The frame to house the fridge slide and electrics from the second battery is finished, well, a few small panels to install when it all goes in next weekend. One rivnut into the loadspace floor, 4 Anderson plugs, and in it goes.

I now have 15 USB power sockets, 2 in the centre console / cubby, 2 at the back of the centre console, 2 in the rear loadspace, replacing the 12V socket, and 8 on the frame. Add in the old USB with iPod socket, should be enough!



This just showed up from OZ, Navi-Plus. So, so miss Apple carplay from the Defender, strange, the Defender has better equipment / tech and is more up to date than the L322. This should bring the L322 bang up to date.

I’m going to get an auto sparky to install it, along with wring in the spot lights, while they have everything apart, running power through the bulkhead, behind the glovebox etc, probably do this after the Xmas break.

Not too sure how extreme you are going but I'll pass this on..

When wading for any period of time water soaks up into the spare wheel well, (it soaks through the seems of the panels, as usual, not sealed at the factory) this isn't too bad as most of the stuff down low isn't too bothered getting wet, however the air suspension pump will quite happily suck in water instead of air to fill the system with...!!! It takes a long time and many drier bake outs to get it all out.

So..

Either move the pump to a higher level or get your sparky to fit a cut out switch so you can ensure the pump doesn't start when you wade...

You never plan on wading that deep but you will sure wish you had sorted the pump if it does suck water... Thumbs Up




This is deep enough to let water seep into the boot, not quite deep enough to reach the pump though...

The front floor pans also let water through the seams and this gets absorbed by the large amount of foam on the back of the carpets.... so check for dampness after wading... Pete

Thanks, wasn’t planning on going swimming in it, there is corrosion in the boot area, not a lot, but you can see that water has got in.

This is one reason why I can extend to 5” to get the thing up, IF, that’s needed, but for the most part, I go to dry, dusty areas and not water, mud areas. Check out my YouTube channel

The frame is built, in, and everything, well, most of it…

All powered up and in….

Compressor will need to be relocated, blew a fuse on the battery monitor, replaced, now working, need to plumb in the air hose for the compressor, chuck, switch.

Installed the LED on the rear dog guard, that had to be chopped, the dog guard, not the LED, LED was used on a tent pole, removed the mounts, then held in with quick fist mini rubber grips, self tappers into the guard. Has white, amber LED’s and dimmable too, something else left in a box of parts from the defender build that never got used.

All good, happy with it.

EasyLift extension module is in, and works, need to rework the mount, put it in the cubby and not in the ashtray.

More soon, trip planned for January, northern Spain, pending restrictions, shakedown run, nothing too serious, gravel, dust, dirt, and then head south to run the Teruel loop, 140 miles off road, slightly more technical, but a wonderful mixture of dirt, gravel, pine forest roads and a nic rocky section to really test out what this thing can do.

Youtube Parkamoor, find a vid from before they filled it in...

Fatty off roader did the sidewall of three Coopers running 19's driving up and down there.... if it's like where you are going then take plenty of spares...

I changed to 18's and 32" tyres and all was well again...

Also with 5" of up travel you will be at or close to the maximum, run it like that and you will blow the bags as they will have no give in them....

Ask me how I know all this....!!

I found that the electronics are far superior to articulation. you really don't need lots of travel.... I did extensive offroading in mine and never got stuck, they are too good... Thumbs Up Pete

Just because it will go up to 5”, doesn’t mean I’ll use it, don’t think it’s required, it will do perfectly fine on extended, if required, and yes, feel it will be excellent because of the electronics.

I firmly believe that driving style off road affects how people abuse tyres, I’ve never, touch wood, never, had a puncture off road in 30 years. If these don’t work, then down to 19’s I will go. Trial and error.
