Had my car about 18 months now. Work van got stuck in the verge outside so I pulled him out. First, I had it in low range (first time ever) and when I was sat still there was a lot of strange smoke coming from underneath. Switched to high range and pulled him out and the smoke disappeared. Any idea what it was/is? Tym

I think all diesels have one. It might be the extra fob for remote park heat that you haven't got. The FBH exhaust is down near where the passenger side front mudflap is or would go, if that’s the vicinity you had the smoke from.

Maybe the motor for switching ranges was burning out due to lack of use? Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

It switched range ok. The smoke happened after I’d tried to pull the van out. Switched to high range, continued to pull him out (successfully!) and there was no smoke whilst in high range. Tym

Hi, might be oil seeping down. I had it intermittantly when I went in reverse it would drip onto the exhaust silencer, fine going forwards, you may have doslodged some in your to & fro stuff.

If it's oudorless it's likley coolant as difficult not to smell smoke in that area as it gets drawn into the cabin from the top of the bonnet. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

Yes, agreed, see if you can smell it next time, could be anything from coolant spillage to an insulation short, each has a very distinctive smell.
