United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 V8 Bonatti Grey

All of the suggestions of crank sensor, throttle position etc are all negated because it doesn't fire with easy start. Using easy start doesn't need any electronics, if the engine ingests it and it has compression it will fire, this engine doesn't. With this mind either there's something wrong with the induction - blocked exhaust would prevent induction due to back pressure or valves not working correctly may prevent induction and likely reduce compression.

One thing for sure, it's been a very interesting thread. BMW i3 Electric Car

I find myself agreeing with a lot of observations & suggestions.
Indeed the lack of firing with easistart to my mind suggests a mechanical rather than electrical fault.
Ie if the 3 mechanic requirements were available, 1) clear path to the cylinder for air/fuel, 2) a sealed cylinder providing compression, and 3) a clear path for exhaust gasses to exit, with the introduction of easistart a Diesel engine WOULD fire.

What I have no knowledge of, is how electronics could impede one of the conditions ??

Anyhow, I have now laboured this morning to manoeuvre the 3t hunk off the road to safely work on.
Are these ringed in RED the exhaust to be removed to bypass the EGR valves ?

No, they are right at the back of the engine

I would agree with the easystart theory on an older vehicle but I suspect that this isn’t the case with modern stuff. They are packed with “safety” features including ways to shutdown the engine if it believes something is wrong.
I may be barking up the wrong tree

Thanks Mikey,

I’ll take another look.
For someone unfamiliar it’s a bit of a maze !

So that’ll be these 2 then ?
Presumably have to break them just enough to let the air out/in unhindered?

Laughing UPDATE : UPDATE : UPDATE.

I now declare MIKEY …..Lord Range of Rover 🎉🎉🎉

The pipes removed.
With half a dozen cranks, and clouds of grey smoke there’s a fire, and another and another !!!
She’s now “purring” like a Censored off Lion !
LOADS of billowing smoke, so shut her down.

So, Mikey, WTF does it mean ?
Does it suggest EGR or Turbo failure ?
If I let her run will it do any damage ?
(Could I move her under power like this just to get up onto the driveway ?
There must be a build up of fuel after all the failed attempts, will this just burn off ? or is it oil from the turbo(s) ?

It it worth reconnecting a pipe one side, and then the other to establish which bank the failure is ?

Kevin

No electronics are controlling the valves so therefore compression should bve there, if there is compression and easystart it has to fire. There are some butterfly's in the inlet side which can close to shutdown a runaway engine but the OP has stated theyre open, even if they were closed you still get the odd firing of cylinder whilst cranking, the OP has said he feel suction on the inlet side so it should be sucking the easystart in there. BMW i3 Electric Car

Can you shed any light on where to go now ?
Brilliant step forward, but what’s the fix ?

Blocked exhaust...

Now, you really need the downpipes off to check the turbos...

Okie dokie.

Does this mean the exhaust manifold ?

Pigeon steps.
Can I run the motor, move the vehicle (20 yards) under power, in this condition ?
So long as I keep a check on oil level.
