Just changed the oil in the engine (M62) and according to manual and rave it takes 8.5L when refilling. I put in 8L to start with but when im checking the dipstick its well over the MAX. Anyone else had this problem? Should i do as the manual and RAVE states and put in 8.5L or drain out some oil til the dipstick is on normal? L322 Vogue 2003

Your engine has quite a large internal surface area with many areas where oil can collect in small pools as
well as it coating the internal surfaces. I normally leave it to drain for about 10 - 30 minutes with the oil hot after a run.
Personally I would drain a small amount off until its on max / normal (assuming the car is on level ground).
