08 SC aks how do your intermittent wipers behave

I have owned my 08 SC for a couple of years now and all that time it seemed the intermittent wipers did not work. According to the manual you just flip the stalk up one position and they should operate. Mine would sweep once and then stop. I fitted a new sensor to the windscreen and also took it to the dealer but they said they could not get them to work (cost $100 to find that out). Just recently I was running the wipers on continuous mode and then switched them down to intermittent. Lo and behold they started working as expected! On the fast setting they sweep about every 3 seconds which is reasonable. One odd thing is that they seem to periodically pause for 10 or 20 seconds before they resume. I almost have to flick them to clear the screen. Is this behavior normal? How do yours work. Thanks
.

When I put the wiper control up one notch they are not intermittent but on automatic with sweep adjustment so it depends on how the sensor interprets the water landing on the screen Mine do some odd things but in general the intermittent setting on the stalk seems to regulate the sensitivity of the sensor if that makes sense I may of course be completely wrong

And if you had them on the automatic intermittent setting…. The one that’s one notch up from off, it will reset when you turn the ignition off, so when you start the car again, you will have to push the stalk down to off, then one back up to auto to enable auto again. This is so you don’t cause damage by starting the car with ice on the windscreen and the wipers trying to wipe automatically.

The little twisty ring you can turn on the stalk, does indeed, change the sensitivity of the rain sensor…..
