United Kingdom 2015 Range Rover Autobiography SDV6 Santorini Black
Charging System Fault and red battery symbol

Had a look on previous threads but didn’t see anything quite the same. Normal car start this morning and after a few miles red warning message Charging System Fault accompanied by a red battery symbol. However car starts and drives normally and all electrics work, other than the heated screens don’t seem to turn themselves off? Drove for two hours, switched car off and on restart no warning….Anyone got any ideas? My immediate thought is it might need a new battery.

Many thanks

Assuming your fanbelts are not shot and slipping, Check the voltage coming from the alternator when running should be 14.4V anything below 14 would suggest the alternator isn't charging the battery enough. If it is low it would be worth checking all the earths but could be time for a new alternator.

For example when my alternator went at 150k , it was charging at just under 11v.

Usually if its starts and then the battery light comes on its charging system related rather than the battery.

However, you maybe right might just be the battery, so fully charge it and see if the voltage drops off, over a few days, could be a drain or battery dead, mine seem to last 3-4 years. Usually you get a host of other errors or bongs if the battery is getting old and tired.

Hope that helps

Many thanks - car has only done 60k with FLRSH so but surprised if the alternator has gone / going, but yes did think it might be that. Will have a look at the battery. Drove home and same warnings but no other issues. 2015 3.0 TDV6 Autobiography in Santorini Black with black-pack

fingers crossed its just a battery then, i wouldnt imagine that the alternator is worn out at 60k but worth checking the voltage when running just incase.
