Late L322 TDV8 - Just a few questions....

I don't know how 'late' an L322 can go, but my new (to me) TDV8 Westminster was registered in November 2012!

Anyway, having recently come from a wonderful '09 3.6 Vogue, there's a couple of things I'd like to check with folks who have the later 4.4's and who might know better:

1. The USB port in the cubby box has been a great find, as I assumed I'd be able to pack 16Gb of music onto a stick (just files - no folders) and leave it in there for when the radio is not enjoyable. However, the car will randomly ignore the USB stick and about 90% of the time it doesn't see it. Repeatidly removing and re-inserting it will sometimes solve the problem, but this is a real pain when you're on the move. So, it does work, but only occasionally. Can anyone shed light on where I'm going wrong with this?

2. The rear 12v socket (in the boot next to the lamp) on my old 3.6 was a permanant live 12v. This was great for plugging-in items which didn't draw a lot of current, but could be used when the vehicle ignition was switched-off. The 2012 socket is only live with the ignition on. Is this right?

3. Why oh why does a vehicle of this age not integrate fully via bluetooth with my iPhone? Surely I should be able to stream music straight from my phone!!

4. Probably a hornets nest having read elsewhere that it's an issue for L322 owners, but how do I get my HDD based Sat-Nav updated, or am I stuck in 2011 for ever more? The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

1..try a different flash drive , maybe a higher transfer speed one.

2...all sockets of that year are ignition only .

3..old tech i'm afraid.

4..again, old tech and now not supported by dealers ... - .- -.

Hi,

For the USB I just formatted mine as Fat 32 and have had no issues, but I’m still mostly old school with CDs. Unless you try with a different stick manufacturer?…..

The 12v sockets power down when the car goes to sleep on the later cars. Ask me how I know 🤣 I spent best part of £300 on a decent coolbox…. Though I know you can do a rewire in the boot fuse box to make them permanent.

The iPod connection is the earlier 30 pin type so you will need a converter for the newer Apple stuff, even then it’s not Bluetooth, obviously. Only for phone calls.

I’m not aware the HDD sat nav can be updated unless you are at the dealers, and i seem to remember the latest is about 2014 and costs a fortune. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

mjdronfield beat me to the live socket issue

As for Sat Navs, as mine is a 2006, I use a superb Tom Tom, very good display / graphics and sits on the windscreen, 'slightly' out of my line of sight, free updates for life on mine, and to be much safer to look at rather than looking down at the dash. Way cheaper than an LR update / upgrade and much more reliable.

As for my music, it's the radio, CD's, and a transmitter gadget on my I-Pod classic to play 15000 tracks at random.

My daughter calls me a 'modern luddite' Rolling with laughter Thumbs Up

There are several very good posts on here about fitting more modern screens and systems, but some will cost a fortune and take a lot of work to install, it depends how much time you spend in the car.

keep your eye out for a tune 2 air or Bovee WMA1000 they sometimes come up in the for sale section, you can then stream music to that over bluetooth and the car will see it and let you skip and pause, won't let you search though. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

The sat nav was rubbish back in 2011/12, I doubt it will have improved much since.

The infotainment/satnav system is horrific and simply not up to scratch for the year or price of the car...

Anyway, I have a 1TB USB plugged in which holds a zillion songs and is tiny. literally the size of my thumbnail. See pic.

Most of the time I use my old iPhone SE hooked up to the 3.5mm audio jack and I play music from my Spotify account or books via Audible. I've re-routed the jack from the rear passenger control area and have it coming out of the cigarette lighter hole within the centre cubby hole - works very well and has no wire now trailing from the front to rear. A very cheap workaround.

When I eventually upgrade to a new iPhone I'll then go Bovee or similar so I have no physical lead.

Ugh the infotainment really is dreadful for car of its caliber.

Bovee is the cheapest fix, I think you can pick one up from Amazon with the iPod cable for around £100. Not perfect but does allow audio streaming with track skipping via the steering wheel. No track titles or anything remotely modern but it's better than a usb stick imo

Another solution is an android auto kit but they don't come cheap and the best solution in this space looks like a bit of a ballache to install. Have a search around here though, a number of people have posted their experience with this.

Indeed -- NaviPlus fixes most things (as opposed to NaviTool) -- but I'm not sure the kits are available any longer Current: 2011 FFRR Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I believe Ipads of that era were only Ios 9.3, which is no longer updateable by Apple. Try DosDude1.com, he has a fix for most Apple updates on older machines.
