After a full year since the first hiccup, I had my steering column lock acting up again recently.
Some WD40 by the locking sleeve and a whack with a rubber mallet seemed to do the trick but it still struggles to lock at times and then I have to wiggle the key a bit to be able to turn it. Particularly after having driven for an hour or so in hot weather and then removing & re-inserting the key. It will then work countless cycles trouble free.
Now I could have the whole thing repaired at my local garage for €350-450 as I do like things working on my cars. But then again, since my lock isn't dead (yet), I decided to give an inexpensive emulator a try; at €40 + 35 postage seems like a no-brainer.
This way I will have a cheap insurance policy against being stranded somewhere unpleasant and the added bonus of being able to revert to stock or even periodically work the lock, say during service...
What I don't seem to be able to find though is a walk through connecting the thing.
I assume, I can turn the key to position II to safely unlock, then by removing the plug the locking mechanism freezes in the unlocked position. Then I can plug the emulator and move on from there. To those who have done this, is my thinking correct?
Thank you
