Left when looking at the engine from the front of the car or standing behind looking forwards? The right turbo when looking forwards from the rear can suffer from oil migration through the wires from the oil sensor in the sump if the blocking harness hasn't been fitted. The blocking harness is applicable to all L405 and L494 SDV8 engines and all vehicles were subject to a recall but your vehicle may have been missed. |

That’s the secondary turbo then, they can be removed with the engine in situ I’m pretty sure, unless someone has rounded / damaged bolts ETC, that said either way they can be a to get out due to room, or lack of it.

Hi Pat, they have two turbo’s, a primary which is used for most driving and a secondary which only comes in when high power is required. (Above 2400 RPM under load). Very similar to a bi turbo but Called twin parallel sequential turbos for the 4.4 full fat.

So how does the turbo set up differ from the 4.4 TDV8 in the L322 and the SDV8 in the L405?

As DD said, but to add for simple clarity. The 3.6 had a turbo per bank and both worked equally with any amount of throttle input… The 4.4 both in TDV8 & SDV8 guise worked like train carriages ie one behind the other… First one is highly refined and does all the lower rev work (and massively reduces turbo lag) and the secondary is a wacking great turbo that’s just there for “power”… |
