Price difference

Hi all I have been looking around for range rover vogue se and my question is why is there such a price gap between an 08 /09 and 09 /10 on average between £10k on an 08-09 and £10k 09-10
Does it mean will loose £10k in the first year of ownership or is there a model difference I am missing?
Bought my disco 3, 3 years ago and only dropped value of £5k in the 3 years, 07 hse paid £28k dealer offered me £23k last week, double checked with glass guide forecourt price £25k! Well surprised 2010 defender utility

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Vogue SE Supercharged Java Black

MY2010 was a major face lift which included a revised front bumper, grille, lights, updated dash and electrics, so there is a big jump in price between MY2009 and MY2010.

It looks nicer, but if you are going deisel it's mechanically the same I think. Earlier 3.6 TDV8 and 6 speed box.

I think you just have to come to terms that you will loose BIG money over the years, but as with all luxurious vehicles, this is just how it is.

If you can afford it, then you only live once and just enjoy it ! You'll loose less as the years go on, but it's certainly going to be close to 10K a year for a 1 or 2 year old Rangie, unless you can find a bargain.

I'd hate to have paid full list price for a new one as you'll easily loose 20K in the first year at those prices !
If you ever buy new, get some discount to ease the pain Shocked

Think how long you may keep it, then check out the prices on autotrader for how old the RR would be then. You'll get a good idea of how much an older one will go for when you might be ready to sell. Also think about what engine you'll get. If you go petrol, you'll definately loose more the older it gets. Diesels always seem to hold their value as they start edging toward 10year old, but a V8 petrol at that age ......hmm not so many buyers Whistle

Regardless of facelifts etc, it will loose money !

Hope you get what you want soon Thumbs Up

Thanks guys, but it's not looking good for range rover ownership for me, I have looked through various price guides and if I buy an 08 vse for £35k in 3 years it will only be worth £21k a loss of £14k Shocked
Compared to my disco which has lost less than £5k in the same time,
I think that the difference in td6 and tdv8 complicate it a bit, what are your thoughts?

That's not a fair comparison. 4 x 4 values 3 years ago were bottomed out. Many FFRR owners who bought at that time have either broken even, or even made money, I'm not saying that will be the case again, but just that 'past performance is go guide to future performance'.

However anybody buying this sort of car will clearly have to factor in depreciation. £5k per year on a £70k car (new price) sounds pretty good to me. The fact that you're only paying £35k for it just means that some kind soul has already taken the brunt of the depreciation for you! Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

What's the mileage Mick? Probably should be worth around £20k at least with average mileage (private not px) Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

As Mick says "Such is Life" - Really don't buy one if you're not prepared to loose at least 15 to 20K over 3 or 4 years. Then if it's worth more, it's a bonus.
All cars loose money with the rare exceptions of collectible ones. The only way we'd all gain in value is if TaTa go bust and stop making them or if there was a massive shortage ! Perhasps we should hope that the new design for 2013 is terrible and no one wants one, maybe then, we'll see less of a depreciation.

I think you've done extremely well bear100 to only loose £5K on your disco over 3 years. I would think that most vehicles around the same price would have lost more than that, so perhaps you've been spoilt this time Razz !

I suspect that's down to the state of the market at the time the vehicle was bought.
My Td6 three years old with 28k on the clock cost me £24k.
Two years and a lot of miles later I got £18k in PX from a dealer. It should have sold for 20k privately.

It's very difficult to guess future values when they are currently at a high level and only three years ago were terrible.

Don't think they were happy when I told them I had kept some bits back from when I traded it in Whistle

I did offer to sell them the bits, but they never replied to my e-mail, but I did get a read receipt Rolling Eyes

Letsavit, agreed I am also not sure either - it could be read either way.

Personally speaking though having seen the market go up and down over 40 years and having owned may new Land Rovers and Range Rovers in that period, £10k a yr depreciation on a new RR is average and to be expected - assuming you ditch it at 5 to 6 years old.

A top of the range Discovery in the late 90's was costing me £5k a year in depreciation then!

Like it or not a new RR will cost minimum of £15k a year to run all in with av miles. Even a euro box costs £5.5k a year.
